Project 3580 Sierra Leone 2014 ~ The Photos Which Speak A Million Words

As promised here's a slightly different blog post for you.

Ebola is a epidemic which is sweeping Sierra Leone among other places, no doubt you'll have heard about the disease on the news. Yesterday we received the horrific news that ebola has now spread into the Kissi town refugee camp, putting our friends at extremely high risk. Conditions are harsh, there is not enough money for the medical equipment needed. The camp's clinic is under extreme pressure to keep the people of the camp alive, and it needs fuel in order for the generator to work. Lives are being lost both from the Ebola but also starvation due to the lack of food available.

If anyone reading this is able to donate any amount of money to a charity which is extremely close to my heart, any donations will be greatly appreciated no matter how big or small. Please share this to spread the awareness and help our friends out in Sierra Leone who are currently facing life threatening situations.

Around Christmas time last year, I made one of the most amazing decision of my life. One thatI will never forget and has completely changed my life forever.

Travelling over 3 thousand miles with 21 other people (only 3 of which I had met previously) to a country devastated by an eleven year civil war and currently ranked the poorest country in the world, was definitely the most nerve racking experience of my life. (Oh did I mention the fact I am also pretty sh*t scared of flying!)

I decided to make this a ‘photo based’ blog post. In this sense…the photos do speak a million words.

It’s funny because when you watch programmes such as Comic Relief where the celebrities go to some of the worst places in the world, you don’t really believe that people live like that. (I didn’t used to believe it myself) But from experiencing it first hand, I can confirm that everything you see is real life and it is still happening today in the modern world.

The most remarkable thing about the people living in these places is their happiness. It makes me question how these people can be so happy, when they simply have nothing. The answer to this is that they know no different.

Simple things that we take for granted such as clothes are a luxury to them, children walk around barely clothed wearing ripped t-shirts, clothes which are too small for them, in the worst condition.

The children don’t own shoes, they walk around bare footed. Why? Because they've never had shoes.

The girls I met, only ever took one thing from me. One simple thing that is seen as a ‘necessity’ to most of us and most of you reading this. Hair bobbles, Hair ties, hair elastics, whatever you call them, that’s all they wanted from me. Every day I would leave our accommodation with a bobble around my wrist and without a doubt I would return from the school with an empty wrist.

Moral of the story? Well there are many different things I could say, but I’m not going to say anything. I shall leave that for you…yes you the person reading this right now. You take this blog post, however you feel necessary. I've put my point across.

Whoops

Quick apology for the lack of any kind of effort in this blog, I promise you that I will get better its just that at the moment my life is pretty hectic with sixth-form and blah blah blah. (Yep all that boring stuff)

But I actually have a solution for you, if I don't post anything on a regular basis you should go and check out one of my best friends blog instead. Shes better than me at it, in fact you should probably just read both of our blogs :) Problem solved!

http://indecisivejess.blogspot.co.uk/

I have little something for you to read for the moment now though, I found this in my 'secret files' on my laptop. Thought it might be some good advice to share with you guys, especially as I know that many of you may struggle with things such as self confidence.

As most teenage girls do, I was having an 'ugly day' one of those days when you look at yourself and you just wonder why.
why my hair looks this way...
why are my spots showing...
why does this top look like this on me...
WHY DON'T I LOOK LIKE HER? (INSERT PERSON OF CHOICE HERE)

Yes..have no fear everyone has those days.

Hope it helps :)

What is Perfection?

‘the state or quality of being perfect

It only hit me recently that the word ‘perfect’ actually has no set definition. Or at least a definition that everyone agrees on, each person’s definition of ‘perfection’ is different.

In terms of a ‘perfect life’ for some it may be having a good job, earning money.
For others: getting married, having children, being surrounded by those who love you.

Being a teenage girl myself: having a ‘perfect body’ for some this may be  tanned and curvy but for others pale and slim

So here's the thing, when you feel down. Maybe you are looking at yourself in the mirror, questioning why you look 'ugly' or why you don't look like someone else.

Ask yourself this:
Am I trying to be other people’s version of ‘perfection’?

After a Long Day ~ Basic Cleansing Routine

This post has been done many a time, generally by Youtubers in video form and for some reason it is one of my favourite style of video to watch. Bearing in mind..that I am basically You Tube obsessed and I cant go a day without watching a video..or two..maybe three?!?!

If i'm honest its only over the past few months that I have started to use a set routine to take off my make up and wash my face, (its bad I know..*slaps my own wrist*)

But, recently I have noticed a difference in my skin and I know that that its been said hundreds of times even I'm sick of hearing it now..But once more didn't hurt! Right?!?!

So at the end of the day, when I've finally decided its time to get into bed I drag myself to the bathroom to sort out the wreck that is usually my face by this point in the day!

Yep so this is my face, make up is almost gone. Hair in its natural state...A mess!!

First things first (I'm the realest..sorry had to happen. I make that joke way too often) I remove my eye make-up with a cotton pad and the Garnier Micellar Water. I find this is the most effective way as it stops the mascara and whatever else I may have applied to my eyeball area from running down my face.

This is an amazing alternative (and better for your skin) to make-up wipes and its much more cost efficient.
Mine cost me £4.99 from Boots
Once my eyes are sparkling clean, I move on to washing my face. Sometimes this can get very messy and often the soap will get into my hair and water will go everywhere, without doubt the safest thing to do in these situations is to tie back the fro...

I will generally use any standard face wash, at the moment its the Neutrogena one, firstly it smells really nice, secondly its pink so why not?

I've had this for a while but i'm pretty sure you can get this in any 'Drugstores' & even in most supermarkets

To finish off the face rectifying process, I have recently started using a spot treatment on the pesky little spots I have on my face. I've always had an issue with blemishes and spots (probably for around 4 years now, I guess I was just unlucky) so I wasn't expecting miracles but actually this treatment has prevented any huge zits from arriving on my face recently so I suppose that's a bonus!

This treatment is also tee tree so all natural stuff on your face..BONUS!

I'm really not sure if any one will read this as it is my first ever post on the blog, so its probably not as good as any others you may read, but hey practice makes perfect.

I am intending to post fairly regularly in the future so please comment any suggestions of what you would like to see! I have a few ideas up my sleeve at the moment, and for those of you who aren't too keen on the beauty posts there will be some other varied topics coming shortly!

Thanks for reading :)
