Products I Want To Try ~ Revisited

On a blogging roll....

So back in January this year, I decided to write a little list of products I wanted to try through the year.

Five months on I decided to revisit this list and look at which of those products I had tried...and hey why not make it into a blog post?

So here it is, my original list, its progress five months on and a mini review of the products I have tried. Enjoy.....

 My original list consisted of:

Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation
Rimmel Wake Me Up Line
Collection Does It All Mascara
Topshop Lipsticks
Maxfactor False Lash Effect Mascara
Revlon Colour Stain Moisture Stay Lip Gloss
Sleek Lip Liners
The Original Naked Pallette
Zoeve Make-up Brushes
Tanya Burr Lipgloss

So as you can see I've only managed to try out three of my original list, for no particular reason apart from every time I go to buy new make-up I forget I have this list!
Collection - Does It All Mascara

I wear: Ultra Black, Waterproof
Price: £4.99

Everyone and their dog will have heard about the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer by now, but a product which I don't think gets enough hype is their Does It All Mascara.

As a huge fan of the concealer, when I heard good reviews about this mascara I just had to try it out. Needless to say it did not disappoint, I would definitely recommend this to those people who prefer to use mascaras which give you a more dramatic eyelash look because this isn't a very natural product.

As a heavy eye-make up wearer, this is a perfect 'budget' mascara which you can get hold of really easily in the UK. It also comes in a non-waterproof formula if that is what you prefer, but when a mascara of this quality retails at £4.99 there would be no reason for you not to try it out!

Rimmel London - Wake Me Up Concealer

I wear: Ivory
Price: £5.49

This is another product which has been raved about by every beauty fanatic on the internet, but personally I would describe it as average. Generally I prefer concealers which have a higher coverage (like the Collection Lasting Perfection) and this one didn't really have as high coverage as I would like.

One of my skin issues is having frequent breakouts, I didn't feel comfortable using this to cover the problem areas purely because its quite a brightening concealer and so would probably attract the eye to the area I was trying to cover. But I do feel it is a nice concealer for under the eyes.

Rimmel London  - Match Perfection Foundation

I wear: 100 Ivory
Price: £6.99

I have always been a huge lover of Rimmel foundations and this one was no different, I tend to switch up between this foundation and a Maybelline BB Cream on a day to day basis, but the Rimmel foundation is one I would definitely buy again.

Its affordable and generally a lovely consistency to buff into my skin. I find it has a fairly dewy finish and so I always set it with a translucent powder but all round a perfect foundation for those on a budget.

Thank you so much for reading and as always comments and suggestions are always welcomed!
Let me know any products you want to try out, or if you have any opinions on products mentioned in this post!
Until next time, Adios Amigos!

Exam Stress? No Problem ~ Lifestyle

Hey
Hey
Hey

Whats happening?

Revision and Exams of course!

The exams have started, two down, only eight more to go.

When all hell breaks loose and you are slightly dying from the stress there are two things you need....fresh air and quiet.

Something I've found useful recently is the outdoors.

As my sixth form building was previously a house, we have a 'sixth form garden', here the boys play football on the grass whilst the girls sit at the benches having a chat. Pretty standard procedure really...but recently this area has been seen as the place to go and compose your thoughts.

If I'm feeling slightly stressed or just need time to gather my thoughts and have a break, I will often go and lie on the grass and just stare up at the sky. I am aware this is a slightly odd thing to do, but do't knock it until you try it.

What are your strategies for keeping stress at bay?

Shameless Confessions #1

So we all have things that we do which we probably should be ashamed of, but in reality we're not...

In fact my whole life is based on shameless confessions.

So for today's post I'm going to share some of them with you...

--> I couldn't get out of bed on Monday morning. Why? Because I had spent the previous night listening to 'I'll make a man out of you' from Mulan, whilst 'recreating' the scene from the film doing some hella crazy karate moves. If you have no idea what I'm going on about..watch this > Mulan -I'll Make A Man Out Of YouI have no shame.

--> I spend an uncomfortable amount of time on Pinterest. Literally Obsessed.  I have no shame.

--> I had to relocate my sock collection to a new drawer. Now I have a drawer full of socks. I have no shame.

--> I have conversations with my dog. Obviously its pretty one sided but I tell my dog all of my problems. I have no shame.

--> I broke my shower with my bum, I fell through the wall and cracked the tiles. I now have a huge scar on one of my bum cheeks. I have no shame.

There are many many more I could share with you, but I will save that for another post.

Please leave me any of your own shameful confessions in the comments!

Okay so the moon was really bright the other night, I took a photo.
Thank you so much for reading and as always comments and suggestions are always welcomed! Until next time, Adios Amigos!

Herbalism ~ Lush Review

Hello lovely people,

It's great to be writing again, well this post anyway! I'm not promising weekly posts just yet, 11 days till my first exam!

I just wanted to give a quick review of the cleanser I have been using recently, so back in March I decided to venture into Lush with Jess when we were in Chester for the day.

Obviously I've been into Lush before...I mean who hasn't?!?! But believe it or not I haven't bought something from there for probably 6 years and even then it was just a bath bomb.

I'm also a bit crap at making decisions and I had absolutely no idea what I was looking for, I knew what I wanted and so I talked to one of the employees and explained my skin type and what I was looking for and she pointed this out to me....

Herbalism - Fresh Cleanser
More Info Here
First impressions...okay it smells funky and its green. Do I want to put this on my face?

I'm always reluctant with using new products as I have extremely sensitive skin and honestly it breaks out on a daily basis without the introduction of new products into my skincare routine. This is part of the reason I went to lush because I know that their products are handmade and use natural ingredients.

If I'm honest I haven't noticed a huge difference within my skin with regards to the breakout situation, but I have never found a skincare product before that does that. My skin is incredibly stubborn and my spots don't seem to want to budge!

But for anyone out there who is looking for a new cleanser I highly recommend checking out Lush especially if you have sensitive skin, because hey...if they use natural ingredients surely its good for your skin!

Food For Thought

Currently I am:
  • Attempting to do an A Level Maths paper (attempting being the key word)
  • Writing this Blog post
  • Scrolling through my Twitter feed
  • Watching the Saccone Joly's latest Daily Vlog
  • In between listening to All Time Low - Therapy on repeat (pretty sure this is the 6th time?)
In other news, my sister threw a spider down my shirt yesterday. Terrifying

I wasn't actually planning on writing today as I have so much school work to do and for me that takes priority over most things at the moment.

I was actually inspired to write this though after I saw a tweet which really got me thinking about a controversial topic in our world today.

I imagine that the majority of you reading this will have heard of Caspar Lee, but if not he is a South African internet personality who is most famous for his You Tube channel.
I was particularly inspired to write this post as a result of the second part of his tweet.

'borders are man made. We're all from the same place.'

I could not agree more, I am a strong believer that racism, discrimination, homophobia and anything else like that which categorizes people and makes them feel less than they should do is completely wrong.

Just think about it like this, it doesn't matter whether you are White, Black, Muslim, Christian, Hindu, French, English, American, Chinese. It doesn't matter if you're homosexual or heterosexual.

Everyone is the same.

Were all humans and why should people be treated differently because of their religion, beliefs, feelings, skin colour, lifestyle etc.

Going back to Caspar's tweet, borders are man made. In reality they aren't even there, there is no physical line to determine what separates one type of person from another, why should you dislike someone purely because they live in a different country? There is absolutely no need.

I am in no way an expert on any of this and these are my own views. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and there will be people who disagree with me.

I wanted this blog to be somewhere I could express my personal views and opinions, to physically write about what I am thinking because I find this helps if I have something on my mind. That is why I felt it was necessary to write this post today.

This was a post intended to make people think and express my current thoughts. I am not trying to cause a debate or argument.

Thank you so much for reading and as always comments and suggestions are always welcomed! Until next time, Adios Amigos!

Project 3580 Sierra Leone - One Year On

It feels weird writing this because I feel my life is going way too quickly right now.

April 12th 2014

I wake up at some ungodly hour
I travel to Sierra Leone
With 21 other people, 19 complete stranger

April 12th 2015

I wake up undoubtedly hungover
Having gone out the previous night
With 8 of the 'complete strangers'
Who I now consider to be best friends
To celebrate a year since we met

Slight change really, so yes its been a year since I went to Sierra Leone with Project 3580. (For original post click here - just saying)

Sorry, pardon, what?

Also I am quite frankly crap at expressing thoughts, feeling and just writing in general. So instead I'm going to write a list of thoughts.

  • How the F***ing hell has it been a year?
  • I have a great group of friends as a result of the trip
  • Genuinely I don't think you will ever meet a better group of people
  • I don't think I go a day without talking to at least one of them
  • When we meet up it is slightly chaotic
  • Its also memorable and hilarious
  • It never involves alcohol
  • How do you vomit in your own eye?
  • If I feel sh** I like to look back over the pictures
  • The pictures are very funny
  • I wish I saw this group more
  • But I suppose because we don't see each other that often it makes everything better when we do see each other
  • I know that other friends are jealous of this group
  • Aporto = Life

I'm sorry if this post is weird and jumbled and doesn't make sense, I think my brain is incapable of functioning correctly at the moment. DON'T TAKE A-LEVELS KIDS.

Thank you so much for reading and as always comments and suggestions are always welcomed! Until next time, Adios Amigos!

A-Levels Are Messed Up

Right here we go, let the rant begin

What is an A Level (just a little heads up for those of you who might not know)
'The traditional qualifications offered by schools and colleges for 16-19 year olds. They’re highly valued by universities and employers and focus on academic subjects'

What is wrong with the A-Level examination system? Now this is not me exaggerating, it is MESSED UP.

1. It causes way too much stress than is needed
2. It isn't about your knowledge, it's about how you write down your knowledge
3. Most people take 3/4 subjects of their own preference and by the end of the two years you pretty much hate them
4. No matter how much effort you put in, you still end up with pretty average grades

Okay I understand that this may be my opinion and others may have had a different experience, but please let me know if anyone reading this is having the same issues as me!

The idea for this post stemmed from me receiving my latest school report yesterday, I currently take three A-Levels (Maths, Geography and Product Design) and I am preparing for my final exams in May and June. I am in no way complaining about my report, because it was actually really good and I was happy with that, the thing I am complaining about is the fact that all of my subject teachers wrote about how much effort I am putting into the work and how I am dedicated and committed to the subject. Yet here is the messed up part, I am still getting C's and D's.

How does that work?!?

I'm not saying that C's and D's are bad grades, its just that with the amount of work I put into both my lessons and extra work out side of school, It really doesn't make sense.

I took 12 different subjects at GCSE and achieved A's and B's which I worked hard for, yet at A Level I am doing triple the amount of work for Three subjects and I am still at a C grade?

Where is the logic?!?

The second point I made is the one thing that irritates me the most about the world of A-Levels, I find this happens particularly in Geography.  Last year I sat my AS Geography paper and without sounding big headed I was well prepared for the exam, I understood the whole course and was confident with my knowledge. By the time I had received my results in August, it was safe to say I was pretty shocked, I got an E.
Now this would be fine, if I didn't love Geography and want to go and study it at University. I spoke with my teachers and it turns out my knowledge for the exam was fine, it was just how I wrote the answer to the questions they were asking that made my grade lower.

So you're telling me..that even though I know the answer to a question. If I write it in a different way to what you want..the answer is wrong?!?! Makes sense yep

I am slowly but surely starting to lose the will to live with A Levels at the moment, but I know I've only got a few months now until my time at school is over so I've got to persevere with them and get on with it.

Please let me know if anyone else is having the same issues as me!

Thank you so much for reading and as always comments and suggestions are always welcomed! Until next time, Adios Amigos!

Sunday 22 March 2015

Update, I'm sorry!

Considering my last post was mid February and it is now late March, I have come to the conclusion that I am great at regularly posting blogs! I'm joking of course, I can only apologize to those of you who read my blog regularly and for those who don't well you probably wouldn't have even noticed!

So instead of just making up some excuse as to why I haven't posted for a while, I thought I would let you know the truth but instead of writing it, I thought it would be nice to just upload photos of what I have been getting up to in the past month.

I also wanted to do this because something I am doing personally at the moment is trying out new things and saying yes to doing more. I wanted to promote this simple ideology to anyone reading this as by saying yes you're opening up a whole new life for yourself and new opportunities will be formed.

Anyways lets get on with it....

Back in January was my 18th Birthday...

It was eventful to say the least, but an incredible night with friends and family
In February...
I saw my favourite band (You Me At Six) live in Birmingham on their UK tour with All Time Low
I went out on a school night for my friends 18th, where we drank fishbowl cocktails and shamelessly became professional pole-dancers
I spoke at a Conservative Party dinner, about my trip to Sierra Leone. Then went out with friends to celebrate a close friends 18th
I was reunited with the 'Aportos' (the group of friends I met on my Sierra Leone trip) for the first time since September to once again celebrate a friends birthday.

In March...

We surprised my best friend for her 18th birthday by taking her out to a cocktail bar in Birmingham followed by my first night out clubbing
As well as another Monday night out with my close friends and friend who I haven't seen since primary school
At School?

I am in the process of manufacturing my A-Level Product Design piece in which the written side is currently at 30,000 words  and causes my laptop to crash every time I try to use it
I also attended a service in Lichfield Cathedral, which is nothing new for me as I am part of the school which is associated the with the Cathedral. But for this particular service, I briefly met His Royal Highness The Duke of Gloucester. So basically I met a member of the Royal Family!

Finally, I accepted my offer to study Geography at the University of Brighton in September, my student finance has been accepted, I have applied for the Halls of Residence and now all I have to do is to sit my A-Level exams and get the grades I have been offered.

What have you been up to recently? Let me know in the comments!

'The purpose of life is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experiences'

Thank you so much for reading and as always comments and suggestions are always welcomed! Until next time, Adios Amigos!

Dry Shampoo ~ Product Review

Hello once again and welcome back,

Quick little post today, with short reviews on recent purchases from the world of dry shampoo. Let me just start off by saying, I cannot live without dry shampoo! Not only do I use it when I really just can't be bothered to wash my hair but I will use it most days just to make my hair smell and look better.

I wanted to review two particular products, one is awesome. The other, well in my opinion...not so great. Before you read on take a guess which you think I prefer and leave a comment below!

Fudge Urban Crisp Pear and Sweet Vanilla Dry Shampoo

Okay, in all honesty I was drawn to this product in Superdrug for three main reasons: firstly, the scent sounds amazing, secondly the packaging is also incredible and thirdy it was on offer the day I was in there. Win Win Win!
I was so excited to try this product out that I tested it out as soon as I got home, the results though. Well. Not so great. (Bet you didn't see that one coming!)
I was so surprised because I had heard great things about this brand and was looking forward to finally trying one of their products, also considering the usual retail price for this is £5.99 (200ml bottle), you would expect it to be of a better quality!
The main reason why I really didn't get on well with this product was that it really made my hair feel disgusting, once I had used it my hair felt like straw and it had lots of powdery residue in it. Luckily I have blonde hair so you couldn't really see any powder, but when I wore a hair bobble and took it out it was covered in the white powder of the dry shampoo.
So for all you dark haired ladies out there, you may want to steer clear of this as it leaves a ton of white powder in your hair, although it still smells incredible!

COLAB Dry Shampoo Tokyo

I'm presuming that many of you reading this will have heard of Ruth Crilly from 'A Model Recommends', well this is her product line which I believe was launched last year maybe? (Don't quote me on that!)
I had been wanting to try it for ages after hearing such good things about it and well my dreams came true when my lovely best friend Jess (you better go and check out her blog here :) ) bought me a bottle for my birthday.
Okay, no word of a lie. This has taken top spot in my dry shampoo list, it has completely knocked Batiste out of the league and we have a new winner!
Firstly, it smells so so so good and the scent lasts in my hair all day! It also doesn't leave any residue at all, yet still gives me a ton of volume once I have massaged it in a little. Also at the price of £3.50 for a 200ml bottle you seriously cannot go wrong!

I would love to hear of any recommendations or thoughts on these products if you have tried them yourself. Thank you so much for reading! Until next time, Adios Amigos!

You Should Never Judge A Book By Its Cover

I'm sure that everyone reading this has heard of the phrase 'Don't judge a book by its cover' which basically means that what you see on the outside doesn't generally reflect what is happening on the inside.

I suppose this is how you could describe me, well with regards to my tastes in music. I have recently (the last year) developed a taste for rock music, it started off with a You Me At Six obsession and has now slowly developed into listening to Metallica and Bring Me The Horizon.

At first my friends were really shocked because I really do not look like the type of person who listens to that type of music, I even ended up talking to this random girl on the train because she was wearing a Bring Me The Horizon top and she was really shocked when I told her I listened to them.

I still dress exactly the same as I used to and nothing has physically changed with my appearance, but I'm sure that when people see me walking down the street with my earphones in, they wouldn't believe I was listening to some (pretty god damn awesome) rock music.

So I just wanted to give anyone reading this a little update on some of my favourite bands right now!

So obviously as I am new to this genre of music, I really would love to hear of any recommendations you may have! Thank you so much for reading and as always comments and suggestions are always welcomed! Until next time, Adios Amigos!

There Are Seven Days In A Week...

...and someday isn't one of them.

Guess who's back?
Back again?

meeeeeee

Does anyone have one of those things on their bucket list that they would love to do, something they've been thinking about doing for years, something they've though about doing but never got round to it?

I have and I've done it, well I haven't done it yet but the date has been set and it will be going ahead in approximately six months time. The tickets are booked, there is no going back.

This thing I am talking about may seem like a tiny thing to some people reading this but honestly for me, this was a huge step and I'm still kind of shocked its going to happen.

READING FESTIVAL 2015
The Reading and Leeds Festivals are a pair of annual music festivals that take place in Reading and Leeds in England. The events take place simultaneously on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday of the August bank holiday weekend. The Reading Festival, the original and senior of the two, is the world's oldest popular music festival still in existence. It has had various musical phases over the years, as detailed below. In the twin-site era, rockalternativeindiepunk and metal have tended to dominate.
So in August of this year I will be going to Reading music festival with some of my closest friends for the bank holiday weekend, there were a few reasons for this decision being made:
  • I have never been to a festival before and I actually really enjoy camping
  • One of my closest friends has been the past two years and insisted I would love it
  • I am hoping to go to Brighton University in September and so will be living five hours away from my friends, I hope to make the most of the time with them over the summer and make some amazing memories
  • I've recently got into the music genres that play at Reading
  • METALLICA ARE HEADLINING
  • I'm trying to say yes to more things, do more and enjoy being a teenager
I think the last point there is one that personally is the most important, I always remember watching the video Zoella made last year called 'Just Say Yes', this is basically the background to me doing the things I have done this last year. I've tried to say yes to doing more things and in all honestly I would encourage anyone reading this to do the same.

I'm going to try and keep this post short and so I will leave you with a little thought, don't let new opportunities pass you by, grab them with both hands and run with them. Because if you don't a few years down the line you might regret not taking the decision to do something. Life is too short to wait.
Thank you so much for reading and as always comments and suggestions are always welcomed! Until next time, Adios Amigos!

Are They Really Worth The Hype? ~ Product Reviews

Hi Guys, I'm back with a little product review. Once again these are my own personal views and are not meant to offend anyone who disagrees!

Liz Earle ~ Cleanse and Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser

Now there has been a huge hype about this product for many years now especially in the Blogging world, so when I got this product last Christmas as a gift (along with the toner, continue reading) from a family friend I was super excited to try it.

I'm going to be completely honest here when I say, I'm just too god damn lazy to use this and I know that is awful but that is the truth. I really wanted to love this product but in all honesty the process of using it just took too long for me and so I didn't use it everyday and so couldn't see any results. Also because I used the muslin cloths that came with it, they got dirty really quickly and I really hated using a dirty cloth on my face. I washed them regularly to stop the germs from building up but often they weren't ready for when I wanted to use the product.

I also found because I wear quite heavy eye-make up the product didn't always remove all of the make-up from around my eyes and so I would have to remove my eye make up separately before using the cleanser.

Liz Earle ~ Instant Boost Skin Tonic

Once again the laziness hit me with this product, although I would argue the fact that this particular product from Liz Earle doesn't get as much hype as it deserves. Firstly I am completely in love with the scent of this liquid and it has such a lovely cooling effect on your skin, it also really left my skin feeling soft and hydrated once I had taken my make up off.

I have quite sensitive skin and using a toner everyday would seriously irritate it and I try to steer clear of using products on my skin unnecessarily as often it can cause me to break out or make my face sting.
Clinique ~ Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion +

I think, that I may have found a new favourite moisturizer! I have been using the Simple 'Kind to skin hydrating light moisturizer' for as long as I have been wearing make up, but now this has all changed due to this new discovery from Clinique. This is the first Clinique product I have ever used and it makes me want to try more. (Perhaps not so great for my bank account!)

I got given this mini 30ml bottle as a Christmas present from my friend and I have been using it religiously ever since, I've also seen a difference in how my skin looks and feels. Generally my skin isn't ever dry, but now I feel like my skin is hydrated throughout the day and my make up goes on better than it did previously.
Thank you so much for reading and as always comments and suggestions are always welcomed! Until next time, Adios Amigos!

Never Will I Ever Grow Up ~ Unhealthy Addictions

Hi my name is Beth,
                                 I am eighteen years old,
And I am a Disney Addict.
I understand that that is an extremely weird post, but I've been thinking about posting something like this for a while, I've been planning it in my little notepad how exactly I wanted to write it and well..here it is.

Now, I've watched lots of Disney films, as well as having a Four Disk CD and numerous albums saved on Spotify full of songs from the films. But I didn't want to talk about all of them because well, that would be boring. So instead, I've decided to share a few thoughts, quotes and my own opinions on a few of my current Disney obsessions....Enjoy....

1. Pocahontas

‘You think the only people, are the people who look and think like you. But if you walk the footsteps of a stranger, you’ll learn things you never knew, you never knew.’
Pocahontas reinforced the fact that everyone is the same, racism and generally not accepting those who are different from yourself is wrong.

If you actually listen to the words of the song ‘Colours of the Wind’ they’re extremely powerful and meaningful, it’s actually quite beautiful and a life lesson for all of us.

I actually made someone I know listen to this song because he is incredibly unaccepting of others who aren't like him.
I sat him down and played the song, whilst saying  'you hear this...do you hear this? take it in, accept it and listen. This applies to you.' From that point on, I realised I had become slightly obsessed with Disney and should probably calm it down, also I managed to make myself look like a complete weirdo in front of many of my friends.

2. Tangled
‘This is just part of growing up. A little adventure. A little rebellion.’
Tangled taught me your parents aren’t always right. Although, this does not mean you should stop listening to them.

Rebellion can be great, you just need to work out exactly what level of rebellion that is. Sometimes rebellion is taken too far and at that point it is not great. But a little rebellion here and there is healthy.

Also that short hair can look just as awesome as long hair.

I haven't seen Tangled that many times, but the first time I watched it a few months ago I fell in love with it. It's got such a great story line and is a twist on the traditional story of Rapunzel. It's also actually really funny, I genuinely laughed at a lot of the film.

3. The Little Mermaid

'Listen to me. The human world, it's a mess.'
I think this Disney film was a winner from the start, firstly I am completely in love with the sea and the ocean anyway. So a film all about life under the sea was awesome, also it involves Mermaids and a talking/singing Jamaican crab. What more could you want?

Also the fact is this awesome crab sang the bestest song ever, whilst confirming the fact that the human world is a mess. Which it is. But yes the song...under the sea. Well. Wow, that song is incredible. I think the majority of people will agree with me when I say that whenever I hear it, I can't help smiling and singing along!

I think another important thing to take away from The Little Mermaid is this, your voice is your most prized possession. Don't let anyone take it away from you. Obviously in the film Ariel learnt this by physically getting her voice taken, but for me and you reading this, I believe this should be taken slightly differently. Everyone has a voice, everyone has opinions, you should in no way be made to feel like you can't speak or say what you truly mean or feel. No one should be silenced and I encourage people to speak out for what they believe in.

So, if you managed to continue reading this far down, thank you! I know this is a slightly random post and different from many of my others, but I seriously love Disney and there is a lot to be learnt from the films. These are just a few of my own ideas but if you really think about it, you'll realise that the background and ideas behind some of the best loved films are really not what they first seem.
